Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art   XDC I

Xin Dong Cheng Gallery was founded in 2000 in Beijing (China). By the end of 2004 the space has been relocated into an old factory in the 798 Art District and now named Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art (XDC-I).

The space's original architecture is influenced by the functional Bauhaus design as it was designed (as the rest of 798 old factory buildings) by former East Germany experts and with the help of the old Soviet Union in the 50's as a military electronics complex.

In November 2007 a 700-square-meter extension, designed by the artist and architect Shi Jianmin, was added to the Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art (XDC-I). These days the 798 Art District is the biggest art center in Beijing, and the Xin Dong Cheng Space for Contemporary Art (XDC-I) is one of the biggest galleries located in it.
