Zhu Wei is the most internationally renowned painter of contemporary ink and wash, as well as one of the most important explorers and representatives of Chinese modern ink and wash painting. In the 90's Zhu was also one of a handful of Chinese contemporary artists to gain visibility on the international stage.
Zhu Wei is one of very few Chinese contemporary artists to choose a classical artistic medium – ink and wash – to represent the social realities of modern China. His work allows for both local and traditional artistic elements in the evolution of Chinese contemporary art. Zhu's study of the traditional art form has created new potential for contemporary art to grow and flourish in the soil of local aesthetics. His art demonstrates to the world the concept, energy and contemporanaeity of Asian painting.
