Wu Mingzhong's paintings seem to describe, as if it were real, a brightly colored "Lilliput" in glass. The goal is not to erect borders: it is a matter of conveying the artist's conception of society and history. He seems to be set on deconstructing, in his own manner all that is sacred, revered and canonical. Though in terms of color and texture his work calls to mind Gaudy Art, which was popular at one time, there exist fundamental differences between the two. Mingzhong's expressions remain suspicious towards social reality and its historical values. They are more closely linked to conceptual deduction through contemporary art. Beyond polished beauty, a deeply entrenched and worrying message lies in plain view: a word of "caution". Beneath the calm surface, anxiety is present, an underlying current constantly threatening to erupt. It is the fragility of magnificence.
